Extra Gems Problem

Since I am getting an error on the message board.

I am not sure about a lottery. However, how about some special pets that cost a lot for those who can earn a lot of gems?

Or, allow for gifting/trading of gems as well as pets, even if not in the same trade? Those who can\'t play as often (or spend time \"mining\" gems)might appreciate others being able to help out.

Yes, I thought of a bank which does deposits and loans, but as we see from other sites--and I bet we know which one I am thinking of--the logistics are complex and might be too much to handle. A small loan shop might be easier. However, in that case there are still issues that would have to be worked out before any such thing were set up. I mean such details as such as interest rate, loan terms and contracts, capitalization, and...unfortunately...ways to collect on delinquent/defaulted accounts, including a small claims court and debt collectors.

I think having expensive special pets and having the ability to trade / gift gems may be good.

Having a raffle for special pets may also be a good way to deal with it. I've seen it done on a myadopts site before. The person made two versions of the same pet, but one of them is a ticket that says that you didn't get a pet. The actual pet version was made to be rare. It'd be much easier than a bank.

Well I was thinking if I ever do get around to setting up donation pets then you'd have a choice of donating and getting one quickly, or saving up for a month or two and buying one with gems.

The whole trade system probably needs an overhaul, I'm just glad you cant loose pets in it.... Sadly I dont know anyone that can help with it, even the guy that wrote it struggled solving it. So I'd need a good while and a clear head to be able to tackle that, if I can... though I was also wondering if its possible to code a system to exchange tokens for gems on a page. I'd have to look into that first before I make any promises.

And I'm planning on making a sort of lottery game thing where like you said it either evolves into a losing ticket or a pet. I have three pets at the moment, heres one shown below. One of the others is a completely new and beautiful breed of another pet, and the rarest one is a completely new creature. Personally I'm liking all of them, so if I dont cheat I'll be spending a lot of gems on the lottery.

Do you think that will do?

I don't know much about coding. If it's too much of a problem to code / fix the trading system, it may not be worth it.

While I'm more awake right now, I'll suggest this. Perhaps the price of the 2 gem pets need to increase to 3 or 4 gems. Maybe the other pets could have a slight price increase, too, but nothing drastic. With feeding a pet that costs 2 gems, you basically get back the gems that you just spent on it so it's like you didn't spend any gems on it in the first place. People aren't really getting much of a gem decrease in buying those kinds of pets.

I want a golden pet now. I would spend the gems to try to get one of those.

The new server that you have isn't free, is it? Donation pets would help cover the cost of the server.

Is the message board now just a news board for Felkyo updates? I got a page that said it does not exist or something when I tried to post my reply on there this morning.

I didnt know much about website coding until I took this on... We'll see, I'll try what I can, I have backups of the basic site and the current site data so even if I do something stupid I should be able to recover.

I lowered the starting amount to 40gems since that was mainly for people starting over again while the site was setting up. Now that its properly open again I lowered it, though I guess it was generous since the lowest amount of gems left over that I've seen is 11. My main worry is the more casual members that come through without much time, I still want them to get some nice pets, though they maybe wont get the rare ones. I'll have a look through and maybe up some prices though considering how many gems people have, how many they can get, and how much pets are. Though thats the point in having lottery pets as well, for people like you with tons of gems.

Good, the other two are looking great in my opinion, and even the tickets a bit interesting.

Actually amazingly it is free at the moment. Though if the site gets massive I would have to pay for a premium service, which would also probably run better if we got into any problems. That and I certainly wouldnt mind taking this site as a job, then my hobby would become my job basically.

Oh darn how did I miss that? Sorry about the message board mess ups, those spammers have caused me a lot of trouble... I really hope thats not the reason why they havent been able to post their junk. I changed the url to try and stop them, I forgot to change the message target url too... And I believe it had that firefox url glitch, but I've sorted it all out now... if the spammers reappear then it will have to become a notice board.

Make sure it is backed-up properly before messing with anything. I was on another site where they accidently did something that caused the site to crash, and the back-up wasn't recent enough so a lot of data was lost.

My vast fortune came from clicking my own pets, not other people's pets. People can build up quite enough of a fortune from clicking their own pets if they're ambitious enough with that.

I think raising up the prices of pets by 1 - 3 gems wouldn't be too much of a problem for more casual members. They'd still be getting 2 gems a click on their own pets so it shouldn't be too, too much of a strain to buy a 3 or 4 gem pet instead of a 2 gem pet.

If your long-term goal is to make it your job, then donation pets would work. You could also try it and see how it goes over in reality before making that decision to make it a full-time job or go into premium service.

If you mean magistream I know, poor Tali/Lass had their entire account lost somehow... it must have slipped through the holes because thankfully they found some of it. Its insane how much chaos that caused....

Okay, like I said I'll take a look at the pet/gem ratio after I'm done messing about with the shoutbox.

True, a trial would be a good idea, I'll find out about that then. It would be a preferred job, I definitely dont expect to make my living off it, but I'll be able to commit more time to it like any art commission.

Thanks, so far they've been kept at bay thankfully, but I think the coding for blocking them from posting is somehow messing with the code that used to redirect you to a link to your post. So the page just sort of refreshes and it looks like you have lost your message... I think I need more refreshing code, I dont know why pages dont automatically refresh on the site, they used to on the myadopts version. Anyway dont try posting on the message board yet, I'm fiddling with it so your message may get lost. I'll put a message on it when I get it right or give up.

Well after looking at everyones gem count in the admin files I'm tempted to lower the gems you get from clicking down to 1. there only one person below 40gems, and the ones that have been clicking have over 100. The average is about 45 due to unspent starter cash. The reason I lowered it in the first place was I didnt like the easily gained huge piles of gems that no one could spend all of. Since you can get 20 2gem creatures or 8 5gem creatures with 40gems I think I'll lower the starter gold again as well... maybe halving it? With 20 you can still get 10 2gems, or 4 5gems. And the casual people that just wanted a taster have rarely gotten more than two pets so they'd still have plenty left over... and it'd give others a good enough start I think. Though what do you think? I dont like messing with peoples gems without asking a few people first really... I could still just up the prices of all pets, or pets below 3 gems, though we'll end up with a lot of 3gem and 4gem pets... To be honest the much easier and less time consuming way would be to lower the click amount and starter amount. Beyond the main shop pets I'd have to change the prices and change amount it says they are on all the pages where you can get them... though I would do it if its the best option for the site.

If you don't want to change the gem amounts for the price of creatures, you can see how it goes with lowering the starter gem amounts and gems per click.

I asked several people in a democratic way and they all agreed with lowering the click amount and the starter gems. So we'll see how that goes I think. Theres 400 pets on the site, and it only takes a few minutes to go through them all even without snaplinks, so people shouldnt have too much trouble getting gems still.
